Mercy BioAnalytics, Inc. is an early-stage biotechnology company focused on reducing suffering and saving lives through the early detection of cancer. We are looking for a passionate and experienced Scientist to join our mission as part of the Early Development team. The successful candidate will design, execute, and analyze experiments related to assay optimization, analyte and reagent characterization, and novel assay development. In addition, this role will also contribute to Mercy’s IP portfolio through innovative and creative thinking and experimentation. Candidates for this position must enjoy working for a fast-paced and cutting-edge startup company, demonstrate exemplary attention to detail, and exhibit a passion for contributing to our life-saving mission.  This role is ideal for a recent Ph.D. graduate with a background in human extracellular vesicle research who wants to contribute significantly to the development of diagnostic assays for the early detection of disease.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Independently design and execute orthogonal assays to characterize and improve performance and robustness of our extracellular-vesicle based assay (Mercy Halo™).
  • Work within the R&D team to conceive and carry out experiments to characterize cancer-associated extracellular vesicles using human model systems.
  • Generate novel data sets to support our biomarker discovery pipeline. Develop and implement new methods for analyte and reagent characterization to complement existing data types.
  • Execute our patented Mercy Halo assay to support ongoing clinical programs as needed.
  • Independently drive research projects by generating experimental plans, project milestones, and associated timelines.
  • Serve as an R&D representative on cross-functional teams to support research projects and development efforts across the organization and with external collaborators.
  • Help develop Technical Protocols, Study Reports, and Standard Operating Procedures, as well as maintain accurate records of experiments in line with QMS requirements.
  • Liaise with CROs to ensure external projects stay on track.
  • Collaborate and communicate within a matrixed cross functional environment including status updates to broader team.
  • Generate data to support scientific publications and present data at external meetings.

  • Previous experience with extracellular vesicle isolation and characterization is required.
  • Proficiency with standard immunoassay and molecular biology techniques including flow cytometry, super-resolution imaging, western blot, ELISA, arrays, qPCR, etc. is required.
  • Experience with using ‘omics techniques (proteomics, glycomics, RNAseq, etc.) to enable biomarker discovery and characterization is preferred.
  • Familiarity with protein bioconjugation techniques and bioconjugate purification methods is a plus.
  • Proficiency in collecting and accurately documenting experimental procedures and results is essential.Familiarity with electronic lab notebook (ELN) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is strongly preferred.
